When Dr Pepper promised to give everyone in America a free, no-strings-attached soda if Guns N’ Roses released their long-awaited Chinese Democracy album before the end of 2008, they probably thought they’d never have to pay up. Well, guess what? The soda’s on them!
If you can believe the GNR camp, a release date of November 23 has been set for the long overdue disc and Dr Pepper says they will make good on their offer. If you want to cash in on that free Dr Pepper, go to their website on 11/23 and get a coupon for one 20-ounce drink. But, if your name is Slash or Buckethead (former GNR members), you’re out of luck. Dr Pepper excluded those two from cashing in – hey, they can call us and we’ll be happy to send them a can!
Strangely, the control freaks in GNR didn’t even know about this promotion until they read about it this past March. In fact, Axl Rose was quoted as saying, “We are surprised and very happy to have the support of Dr Pepper with our album Chinese Democracy, as for us, this came totally out of the blue. If there is any involvement with this promotion by our record company or others, we are unaware of such at this time. And as some of Buckethead’s performances are on our album, I’ll share my Dr Pepper with him.” Hmmmmm, sounds legit.
