The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony went off without a hitch last Saturday in Cleveland…and without Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose (quipped comedian Chris Rock during the show: “A lot of people are disappointed that Axl Rose isn’t here. But let’s face it, even if he was going to be here, he still wouldn’t be here yet”).
Gunners Slash, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler were joined by later G N’ R members Matt Sorum and Gilby Clarke (Myles Kennedy, who sings with Slash’s band, handled vocals) and performed Appetite For Destruction-era classics “Mr. Brownstone,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City.” Said McKagan to thunderous applause, “I don’t know if it matters who’s here tonight because it’s about the music that that band created.” Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong inducted G N’ R, and his passionate fanboy speech about the band below:
