Metallica’s James Hetfield has recorded a Public Service Announcement to assist the FBI’s multimedia campaign to bring awareness (and hopefully tips that lead to an arrest) in the 2009 murder of Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.
Morgan disappeared after a Metallica concert on the University of Virginia campus on Saturday, October 17, 2009; she had stepped out during the opening act and was unable to regain entrance. She was last spotted hitchhiking near the venue. Sadly, she was never seen alive again. Her skeletal remains were found three months later at a farm about 10 miles from the arena. DNA evidence recently linked Morgan’s presumed killer to a 2005 rape case, and now they need to find the guy. Check out Hetfield’s PSA right here. The Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Morgan’s murderer; Metallica has added an additional $50,000 to that.
