Jack Osbourne, son of Ozzy Osbourne and his wife/manager, Sharon, has announced that he’s been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic and incurable autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. It can range from mild to totally debilitating and varies person-by-person; it’s treated with different medications and therapies with the goal being to help those diagnosed with MS live fulfilling, normal (or almost normal) lives. Jack, 26, and his fiancée, Lisa Stelly, became parents for the first time in April with the birth of their daughter, Pearl. “I was just angry and frustrated and kept thinking, ‘Why now?’” Jack told People.com. “I’ve got a family and that’s what’s supposed to be the most important thing.”
Jack’s diagnosis came after a doctor’s visit after he began having tingling in his extremities and suffered a 60 percent loss of vision in his right eye, both hallmarks of MS. Sharon was extremely shaken when discussing Jack’s diagnosis on a recent episode of her show, The Talk, but thanked people for their support. In an interview with Hello! magazine, Sharon lamented, “I keep thinking, ‘What did I do wrong? What did I eat or drink when I was pregnant? I feel like it’s somehow my fault.” Jack elaborated in the mag on the type of MS he’s been diagnosed with: “I had to do some scuba diving at night in a cold lake. When I came out, I had a headache…The next day, the vision in my right eye started to go in and out of focus. There are four different kinds [of MS] and the one I have is relapsing and the most common, but least aggressive.”
