Former (current?) Queensryche singer Geoff Tate is readying his new solo album, Kings & Thieves, for release this November 6. He’s also issued an electronic press kit featuring himself narrating over video clips…of himself.
Blabbermouth.net transcribed the video: “My name is Geoff Tate. I’m a singer, songwriter, traveler. Oh, yeah. I love my job. I’m one of the founding members of Queensryche. We’ve been a band for 30 years. We have twelve studio albums that have sold about 25 million copies. I feel incredibly fortunate that I have been able to travel and play my music for people in 46 different countries around the world. Music is my great passion.
But I’ve been told that my passion for living borders on extreme. I guess I’m an experience junkie. I crave adventure. In fact, if there’s any excuse for adventure, I’m there. I usually bring a couple of motorcycles on tour with me [and] ride between cities. I love wine and I have my own brand. It’s called Insania. We do a red and a white, and we just released our fourth vintage in 2010. Motorcycles. Music. Wine. These are some, but not all the passions in my life. I’m a family man. And my wife and I have four beautiful daughters. And recently we were blessed with our first grandchild. Man, what a celebration. It has been quite an experience becoming a grandfather. I had no idea it would affect me so profoundly. I’ve had a glimpse of my own mortality.
So now I’m pumping up the volume. You know, they say life is for living, so pack everything in you can. And I’ve reached the stage…Oh, wait. Watch this… [pauses for clip of Tate jumping up in the air while performing on stage]. I love that. Oh, there’s my beautiful wife Susan. So I’ve reached the stage in life where I’m fascinated by the idea of what’s next. They say, if you wanna move in a particular direction, lean that way. This is life. It’s happening right now. And I say, bring it on.”
