Toto bassist Mike Porcaro succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Sunday, March 15 at his home. He was 59.

His brother, Steve, confirmed his death on Facebook:

Our brother Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep at 12:04 AM last night at home surrounded by his family. Rest in peace, my brother.

Post by Steve Porcaro.

Toto guitarist and singer Steve Lukather reflected on Porcaro’s death on Twitter:
My brother Mike Porcaro is now now at peace. I will miss him more than I could ever put into words. My deepest love to the family. God Bless.

Porcaro joined Toto in the early 80’s, after being recruited by his brothers Steve and Jeff. Jeff passed away at the early age of 38 in 1992. Toto is slated to release Toto XIV, on March 24, followed by a European tour.

Here is a special tribute video posted by fans on YouTube:

Sadly Mike Porcaro passed away on the 15th of march, 2015. He’s an example to many world wide musicians (bass players) and we will miss him very very much. R.I.P. Mike, thanks for every note you gave us……
