Joe Perry’s Stage Collapse Not Heart Attack?
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has been discharged from Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York after collapsing on stage Sunday night July 10 during a Hollywood Vampires show in Brooklyn, New York. He is said to be resting at home in suburban Boston.
Sources close to the Aerosmith guitarist said that Perry’s stage collapse was brought on by a combination of dehydration and exhaustion. No mention was made of a heart attack as previously thought.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood Vampires have continued with their U.S. tour. Joining the group on stage at the latest gig in Wisconsin was Marilyn Manson on Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen”. The band also went back to doing the three songs that Aerosmith normally performs — “Sweet Emotion”, “Come Together” and “Train Kept-a-Rollin'”.
Perry is currently off the Hollywood Vampires tour, though a recent statement from Alice Cooper promised that he’ll “rejoin his fellow Vampires on stage again soon.”
Stay tuned for updates.

Study Says Heavy Metal Music Helps Listeners Deal with Mortality
Heavy metal music helps fans deal with the idea of their own death according to a study by the Journal Of Psychology Of Popular Media.
30 participants took part in the project, entitled The Memory Remains: How Heavy Metal Fans Buffer Against The Fear Of Death, where one group listened to Slayer’s 1986 classic “Angel Of Death” while the other heard an audio book. Researchers then asked the participants to complete psychological questionnaires.
The researchers wrote: “Heavy metal music is often associated with death and dying by nonfans whereas members of this subculture report that listening to metal music is their escape from depression and even helpful against death-related thoughts. […] Metal music can be seen as cultural good for fans and thereby can form part of their social identity.”
Metalheads Say The Damnedest Things
“Thirty-five years have passed since that day and my life has changed profoundly. I am a husband, I am a father. I am a long way from the 17-year-old soon-to-be-college dropout who co-founded a heavy metal band. The only thing that hasn’t changed in 35 years, the one constant, is that I am still the rhythm guitar player in Anthrax. It’s what I GET to do. I GET to play in a band and I never take that for granted.”
~ Anthrax co-founder Scott Ian reflecting on Anthrax’ 35th anniversary this month.
