Metallica’s James Hetfield Takes a Bad Fall Onstage in Amsterdam

Metallica frontman James Hetfield took an ugly fall in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on September 4, tumbling into a gap during the shifting of Metallica’s custom stage. Four gaps in the stage appeared so custom percussion could rise from beneath. Barely two seconds after the portions of the stage had been lowered, Hetfield fell right into the thin gap, smashing his face into the stage as he fell.

Like a true rockstar, Hetfield got back up and kept playing, shaking off the fall and continuing with the arena show. “Is everybody OK?,” he asked. “Yes, I’m OK. My ego, not so much.”

Of course, fans caught it all on video. Luckily, Hetfield was not seriously injured in the fall.
