Rock star Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) returned to Broadway on Monday, April 9, joining the company of Rocktopia at the Broadway Theatre. Last seen in Rock of Ages, Snider will bring down the house through April 15 as he sings his band’s classic “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” In keeping with the theme of Rocktopia — a seamless blending of classical music and face-melting rock — Snider’s tune is also given an instrumental twist performed by violinist Máiréad Nesbitt and guitarist Tony Bruno.
Dee Snider joined Rocktopia’s diverse lineup of celebrated rock, Broadway, and opera vocalists: co-creator Rob Evan (Broadway: Les Misérables, Jekyll & Hyde; Trans-Siberian Orchestra); Chloe Lowery (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Chris Botti, Yanni’s Voices); Tony Vincent (American Idiot, We Will Rock You, RENT); Kimberly Nichole (NBC’s “The Voice,”); and Alyson Cambridge (The Merry Widow at the Met Opera, Madame Butterfly, La Boheme, Show Boat). Grammy Award winner Pat Monahan, lead singer of the band Train, is making his Broadway debut as the featured guest vocalist thru April 8; and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Robin Zander, lead singer of Cheap Trick, will perform the final week of the Roctopia run, April 23–29, 2018.
Dee dedicated “We’re Not Gonna Take It” to “all the teachers out there.”
Last week, Dee tweeted his support of the teachers, “While I totally support underpaid teacher’s cause, it is kind of weird that a song that was on the ‘Filthy 15’ is now every oppressed groups battle cry.”
