It’s been 30 years since the release of Metallica‘s iconic Black Album, and they’ve issued an incredible new box set package filled with all sorts of extras including backstage passes, guitar picks, outtakes and so much more.
Watch this oddly satisfying video of ex-Metallica member Jason Newsted unboxing the newly remastered deluxe set. His memory about the places they played and the photos included is amazing. Why’d he leave again? WE LOVE US SOME NEWSTED!
The limited-edition deluxe box set features the album remastered on 180-gram 2-LP vinyl, a picture disc, three live LPs, 14 CDs (containing rough mixes, demos, interviews, live shows), 6 DVDs (containing outtakes, behind the scenes, official videos, live shows), a 120-page hardcover book, four tour laminates, three lithos, three guitar picks, a Metallica lanyard, a folder with lyric sheets, and a download card.
And this is on top of a 53-track covers album, Blacklist, featuring reworkings of the record’s 12 tracks by Biffy Clyro, Weezer, Corey Taylor, Ghost, Miley Cyrus, Elton John, IDLES and loads more.
Also: they’ve teamed up with Vans to make some trainers featuring art by collaborator Pushead.
Oh, and they’re unleashing a film’s worth of outtakes from their A Year And A Half In The Life Of Metallica documentary, which follows the band as they make the album and become the biggest metal band on Earth.
The $240 box set is available for pre-order now, and is expected to be out on September 10. Order yours here now.
